EEA is pleased to announce that we are the first NYS DOL Mold Program training provider approved to present the “mold refresher”. We were also the first approved to provide the initial courses. Thanks Alisa!
Here’s some important detail;
- A refresher is required every two years, and must be completed before your current certification expires (check your hard card) – no exceptions!
- There is only one refresher for all three disciplines (i.e. assessor, contractor & worker). Everybody into the pool!
- The course is four (4) hours.
Lots has changed and been clarified since the State began issuing certifications in Fall ’15. The refresher course addresses the practical application of the legislation and attendees can expect detail on how/when the legislation applies. Save your spot, register today!
EEA is also encouraging the State DOL to assume authority to operate the EPA Lead Based Paint Abatement, Inspection & Risk Assessment and Lead Renovator Certification Programs. EPA never had the resources to operate the New York State program adequately, which is reflected in widespread lack of compliance with the Lead Renovator Rule. With cuts to EPA looming under the current administration, the likelihood that lead safe renovation improves is pretty slim and the probability that children are poisoned increases every day. The State DOL has extensive experience operating environmental certifications program (see above & below) and is in a way better position to oversee compliance. EEA has spearheaded efforts to encourage Governor Cuomo and AG Schneiderman to tell EPA that NYS can do it. Asbestos is pretty quiet. EPA has talked about eliminating funding for AHERA, which would leave the states responsible for protecting school kids and staff from asbestos. That would jeopardize funding the State receives for AHERA compliance. Scary, but it would not affect the other Federal (NESHAP) or State regulations, which are the engine for the asbestos abatement industry.
