Asbestos & Lead Training

Greetings;

Lots to report on asbestos & lead these days. Here are a couple of links to recent newspaper articles on asbestos, including OSHA violations in Rochester and Buffalo and life in Asbest, Russia. The NYS DOH Environmental Laboratory Program (ELAP) has also come out with new guidance on treating Vermiculite as asbestos containing material (ACM).

Couple violations to report on lead too. A contractor in Omaha, NE has been fined $65,450 for failing to take proper lead paint precautions required under the EPA Renovation, Repair & Painting Rule (RRP) and a Vancouver man has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for lying about being certified to perform lead-based paint testing in Portland, OR homes.

We’ve also heard from the HUD Office of Healthy Homes & Lead Hazard Control (OHHLHC) that grant funded projects must now be treated as abatement projects. This means that contractors and firms must be EPA certified and follow EPA recordkeeping requirements for notification, occupant protection plans and abatement reports. Moving forward, OHHLHC grantees should check their records to make sure that contractors are in compliance.

EEA has a full schedule of asbestos, lead, mold & safety training programs that would have helped all these folks stay out of trouble. Here are a few upcoming sessions:
